August 6 – Love that does not idle

"Whoever loves God not only keeps God’s commandments but strives to do more than what is required. Such a person is zealous, full of fervor for God’s glory; they pray more, practice devotions, and encourage others to love God. Divine love – says St. Gregory – does not idle. If it does, it accomplishes much."
Father Wenanty Katarzyniec
In times when many of us settle for a spiritual "minimum," the words of Father Wenanty Katarzyniec resonate with power and challenge. They remind us that true love for God knows no limits set merely by duty. These words are not just a beautiful spiritual theory. They are a concrete invitation for our relationship with God to be alive, zealous, and fruitful. Love that is true does not limit itself to fulfilling a "religious obligation." It seeks how it can give more—not for merit, but out of gratitude and passion.
Father Wenanty reminds us that love for God is revealed in daily effort, in patient prayer, in quiet sacrifices, and in encouraging others toward good. Love that "does not idle" does not have to be spectacular—but it is faithful. It is active. It is light.
Perhaps today it is worth pausing and asking:
- Is my love for God truly active?
- Am I seeking what more I can give—not out of fear, but out of love?
- Does my heart burn with a fire that refuses to stop at merely "what is necessary"?
Father Wenanty shows us the way—simple, yet profound.
A love that goes further. A love that truly lives.
