March 20 – Living in the Presence of God

„Remaining constantly in God’s presence brings joy and happiness to the soul, perfects it, guards it from falling into sin, and helps it grow in virtue. From this is born deep humility, for before God, infinitely holy, even the greatest virtue is only a shadow.”
- Father Wenanty Katarzyniec
A person often looks for peace in changing circumstances, in better conditions, in greater certainty, in a sense of control. Father Wenanty reminds us that true joy is born elsewhere - in living in the presence of God. This does not mean constantly speaking words of prayer, but remembering that God is near. In work. In conversation. In difficulty. In solitude. In the ordinary moments of the day. A soul that lives in the awareness of God’s presence becomes calmer, more attentive, more inwardly ordered.
It avoids sin more easily, chooses what is good more readily, and returns to God more quickly after falling. This closeness does not lead to pride. On the contrary - it gives birth to humility.
The more a person sees the greatness of God, the more he understands his own smallness. And in this he discovers the truth that does not humiliate, but purifies. For before God, who is infinitely holy, even the greatest human virtues are only a shadow. And yet God desires to be close. And He invites us to live in His presence.
Reflection for today:
- Do I remember God’s presence in the ordinary moments of my day?
- Does the awareness that God sees me help me choose what is good?
- Does my prayer lead me to humility, or to focusing on myself?
