March 26 - Everything Is Grace

“The grace that we are Christians, that we can receive the Holy Sacraments, that we can listen to the Word of God, that it becomes easier for us to live a virtuous life - to resist temptations - who gives all this, if not God?”
- Father Wenanty Katarzyniec
Many things in life begin to seem ordinary to us. Faith, the Church, prayer, the possibility of receiving the sacraments - we often treat them as something obvious. Father Wenanty reminds us that none of this comes only from our own effort. All of this is grace. It is grace that we know God. It is grace that we are able to pray. It is grace that we have access to the sacraments. It is even grace that we sometimes have the strength to resist temptation and the desire to live a good and virtuous life.
Man easily attributes good to himself, and difficulties to circumstances or to other people. But spiritual life begins with gratitude. When we begin to see everything as a gift, humility is born. And from humility comes peace. We are not the only authors of the good in our lives. God works in us more often than we notice.
That is why it is worth stopping for a moment and asking: how many things in my life have I received that I could never give to myself? The more a person sees grace, the more he learns to trust God.
Reflection for today:
- Do I notice how much good in my life is a gift from God?
- Do I thank God for faith, the sacraments, and the chance to live close to Him?
- In what situation today can I rely more on grace than on my own strength?
