July 24 – Love for God is not just a feeling

“To love the Lord God with all your soul means to strive to purify the soul of all sins and imperfections, in order to be pleasing to God.”
Father Wenanty Katarzyniec
Love for God is not just a feeling – it is a decision, a daily effort, and a desire for inner transformation. Father Wenanty Katarzyniec reminds us that loving God with all our heart is more than words and emotions – it is a process of purifying the inner self, letting go of everything that separates us from God: sin, selfishness, attachment to fleeting things.
We often think that love for God is expressed through prayers, songs, or devotional practices. That is true – but these outward signs have their source in a heart that longs to be pure, transparent, and sincere. Purity of soul does not mean human perfection, but a humble path – a readiness for self-examination, reception of the sacraments, and a struggle against our weaknesses.
Love for God does not fear the light. It desires the soul to be like clear glass, through which grace can shine. When we stand in truth before God and allow Him to purify us, we draw closer to Him – and love grows, matures, and radiates to others. It is not about fearing our imperfections – but bringing them to God. In them, we may find the place where His mercy meets us.
Today, begin with a simple question: What can I purify in myself to love God more?
It may be a single attachment, an unspoken wound, a recurring neglect. Or it may be the first step toward a deeper relationship you have longed for.
Let the words of Father Wenanty remind us that true love for God begins in a heart ready for transformation.
