July 22 – Don’t chase a drop when the sea awaits

“How should the infinite beauty, the source of perfection, draw us! What are creatures? When they excite me, I will say to myself: why chase a drop when I can easily have a sea of goodness in God? My heart is Yours, O God. Creatures are beautiful insofar as they remind me of You.”
Father Wenanty Katarzyniec
In the daily hustle, amid so many attractions and distractions, it is easy to fall into the temptation of chasing what is fleeting. The beauty of the world tempts us—landscapes, art, people, things. Yet Father Wenanty Katarzyniec reminds us, with deep insight:
“Why chase a drop when I can easily have a sea of goodness in God?”
This question strikes with both simplicity and spiritual depth. For what are creatures—even the most wonderful—compared to the infinite beauty of the Creator? Father Wenanty does not reject the beauty of the world. On the contrary, he recognizes its value—but only insofar as it reminds us of God. “Creatures are beautiful insofar as they remind me of You.” This is not a dismissal of the world—it is a proper alignment of perspective.
It is a call for the human heart not to settle for the intermediary, but to seek the source. Just as a drop comes from the sea, every goodness and every beauty comes from God. The world can amaze us, move us—but it should not enslave us. Even the most beautiful creature cannot satisfy the depth of a soul created for infinity.
In a world full of excess, overindulgence, and desire, it is worth returning to this simple truth: “My heart is Yours, O God.” When this becomes our daily sigh, things take their proper measure. Then we can enjoy the world without making an idol of it. Then every beauty becomes a signpost for us—not the goal. Do not stop at a drop. Seek the sea. It awaits—in the silence of prayer, in humility, in simple surrender to God.
